When the Premier League transfer window closes for Manchester United and Man City

This summer’s transfer window eventually opened for business on July 27, six weeks after its intended start date in June.

Over the past few months, Premier League and Championship clubs have bought, sold, bartered and negotiated with domestic and continental sides in an attempt to bolster their squads for the 2020/21 season.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City have been active in the summer, although the former headed into the final day of the window with only Donny Van de Beek as a senior recruit. Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles could be added to the squad in deadline day deals.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola has rejuvenated the defence with the signings of Nathan Ake and Ruben Dias, while Ferran Torres has also been drafted in.

Further business, both incoming and outgoing, may be on the cards but a strict deadline is in place for those deals to cross the line.

When does the transfer window close?

This year, due to its delayed start, the transfer window runs until 11pm on Monday October 5.

This deadline related to deals between Premier League clubs and non-domestic transfers. EFL clubs are also prevented from doing non-domestic business after Monday’s deadline.

However, Premier League and EFL clubs will be allowed to do business with each other for an 11-day period after October 5. This means Premier League clubs will be able to conduct deals with EFL clubs until 5pm on October 16, but not with other top-flight outfits.

La Liga and Ligue 1 clubs are affected by the same deadline at 23:00 BST on October 5, but Bundesliga and Serie A clubs will need to have their affairs in order at 17:00 and 19:00 respectively.
