When the lights go out

The new issue of Real Business is about to hit the shelves. One of the best articles in the current issue is by the features editor Charles Orton-Jones, and concerns what happens when your company goes belly-up.

"The most commonly used phrases I hear in my job are: "I wish I'd called you earlier," and, "I wish I'd talked to my bank more." Sometimes I deal with chief executives who don't know how much money their firm owes. They have no idea of the scale of the problem before them," says an insolvency practitioner.

It's not a pleasant thought, that your business might not last as you'd hoped it would - I know, it happened to me but in a way that didn't leave me with debts or take away my livelihood. This article's well worth reading for people who don't mind thinking the unthinkable a bit.
