When the Five Swans Wetherspoon will reopen - and what's new

Newcastle's Five Swans Wetherspoon pub will reopen next week following a refurbishment.

The popular Spoons, in St Marys Place, closed in October so it can undergo a makeover. Wetherspoon has confirmed the Five Swans will reopen to customers on Tuesday, February 11.

Staff - who were sent to work at other Wetherpoon pubs during the 114-day refurbishment, will return to the new-look Swans. The pub, close to Haymarket Metro Station, is popular with city centre workers, football fans, students from the two nearby universities and those attending events at Newcastle City Hall.

Pub manager Leanne Surtees said: “Wetherspoon has spent just over £1million on the pub, providing further substantial investment into the area.

“Myself and my team will look forward to welcoming customers back into The Five Swans, and we are confident that they will be impressed by the refurbishment and extension of the pub.”

Inside, the first floor has been transformed and will be open to customers for the first time since Spoons took over the Five Swans in 2011. There will be no bar on the first floor, but customers will be able to order food and drink to their tables using the Wetherspoon app.

Downstairs, there is a new colour scheme, re-upholstered furniture and newly-polished timber floors. New carpets have been fitted too.

Behind the scenes, the kitchen has been extended into the yard area, at the back of the pub, and the cellar has also being increased in size.
