When Storm Eunice will end - latest forecasts

The UK is feeling the full force of Strom Eunice today, with winds topping 90mph in some parts.

It has led to warnings to stay at home, with disruption to travel widespread and power cuts affecting many homes and businesses.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings across the country, including rare red warnings in some parts of the UK, such as the coastline of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and the south coast of Wales.

An amber warning is in place elsewhere, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The red warning is in place from 7am until 12pm on Friday and the amber warning applies from 5am to 9pm.

There are warnings of "flying debris resulting in danger to life" and "damage to buildings and homes, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down".

Other threats include roads, bridges and railway lines being closed with delays and cancellations to public transport, ferry services and flights, and large waves plus "beach material" being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes, which could result in flooding for some coastal properties.

Tonight, when the storm finally eases after 9pm, many can expect to see wintry showers continuing through the evening and overnight, with winds still high, if not as forceful as earlier.

Snow will be settling on higher ground.

It is expected to be feeling cold with a widespread ground frost and some icy patches as temperatures could plummet to -1 degrees.
