Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone won’t be guaranteed European football until Christmas thanks to late drama in the English Premier League.
Chelsea’s late qualification for the Champions League, pipping Leicester City by just a point on the last day, means the Perth club will now start in the third qualifying round.
Callum Davidson’s Scottish and Betfred Cup winners will need to get through a round before they would guarantee dropping into the Europa Conference League group stages.
If they were to fall at the first hurdle in the Europa League then they would go into the play-off round for the new competition.
It was initially believed that the Scottish Cup winners would automatically go into the play-off round but a change of coefficient has stopped that from happening.
St Johnstone will still be given a longer summer break as the draw is on July 19 and their opening games aren't scheduled to be plaued until August 5 and 12.
Beaten finalists Hibs and Aberdeen, who finished fourth in the Premiership, will both kick-off in the new Conference League, the third tier competition introduced by UEFA.
They will both enter at the second qualifying round, which will be drawn on June 16 with games to be played July 22 and 29.
Premiership winners Rangers go into the third qualifying round for the Champions League.
Steven Gerrard’s side will find out their opponents on July 19 with their campaign to start on August 3 or 4 with the return a week later.
Celtic take up the second Champions League spot, which sees them enter the second qualifying round on the non-champions path.
Six sides will go into that round, with the Parkhead club seeded, with the first legs on July 20 and 21 and the return legs a week later.
