When Rangers and Celtic fans could return to games as Scottish Government date is outlined

Football fans could be allowed to attend matches next month according to the Scottish Government lockdown route map.

Supporters may be allowed to return to live outdoor events, with physical distancing, from July 23 it emerged this week.

And it's even being reported that Celtic hope to have around 30,000 fans inside Parkhead by the end of August.

The Daily Mail say that the Scottish Champions are looking to get their ground running at 50 per cent capacity within weeks of the new season starting. Celtic have been working with the SRU to explore different ways of getting fans back to games safely.

The new Premiership season is to get underway on August 1 and 2, and it was initially anticipated that matches would be played behind closed doors.

However, news that fans might be allowed back to games sooner rather than later, and the grassroots game could resume from July 13, has been welcomed by Scottish FA chief Ian Maxwell.

“[The] news is welcome by the JRG (joint response group) and I am sure everyone involved in Scottish football from professional to grassroots level.

"While we must proceed with caution and respect the government’s current public health advice, none the less the First Minister’s announcement today gives confidence that, as the virus diminishes in Scotland, we can prepare for the gradual return of fans into stadia.

"The JRG is also currently finalising its Return to Playing guidelines for the commencement of the Scottish Premiership season and will share this with clubs shortly.”

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: "This is a vital step everyone in Scottish football has been waiting for.

"We are not taking anything for granted, and are committed to adhering to all relevant medical and government guidelines, but clubs and supporters can definitely now see light at the end of the tunnel."
