When Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to return for Arsenal after missing Wolves trip

Unai Emery's plans to overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers in a crucial Premier League match were dealt a major blow on Wednesday with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being forced to miss the trip to Molineux with a sinus problem.

Aubameyang, Arsenal's top scorer this season, required a minor procedure to solve the issue, which forced him to miss training on Tuesday before the squad travelled to the Black Country for their fourth-from-final game of the season.

The Gabon striker's procedure was a success and football.london understands the striker is expected to be available for Sunday's trip to Leicester City.

Aubameyang has scored 24 goals in 45 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, the most of any player at the club and is level with Mohamed Salah and Sergio Aguero in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot having scored 19 times.

In Aubameyang's absence Emery has resorted to a 4-2-3-1, with Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan tasked with providing support for lone striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Aubameyang's absence will be keenly felt tonight and he will be disappointed to suffer a setback in his bid to win the Golden Boot in his first full season in the Premier League after joining from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

"I feel confident, and the race is going on," he said earlier this month.

"I know that it's a tough battle.

"I'm confident and I will carry on."

Were Aubameyang to win the prize he would become the third Arsenal player to win the award after four-time victor Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie, who picked up the prize in the 2011-12 season.
