When Newcastle United must register their new-look Premier League squad for 2020-21 season

The summer transfer window is almost over for Newcastle United.

The main deadline passed on Monday night, thought the Magpies and their Premier League rivals can still do business with their EFL counterparts until 5pm on Friday, October 16, as part of an extended domestic window.

So far, Newcastle have signed Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser from Bournemouth, Jeff Hendrick from Burnley, Jamal Lewis from Norwich City and goalkeeper Mark Gillespie from Motherwell.

And on deadline day, they completed the signing of Peruvian prospect Rodrigo Vilca, who will initially link up with the club's under-23s.

Prospective exits for fringe players such as Achraf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons and Henri Saivet failed to materialise, though.

This could leave Steve Bruce could face decisions over who makes the cut in his 25-man squad.

Each Premier League club can only register 25 players over the age of 21 for the first team every season.

Of those 25 players, no more than 17 can be "non-home grown" players.

So, to fill a squad of 25 players over the age of 21, a team must have at least eight homegrown players.

Homegrown players are classified as having been developed at an academy of a club in the English football pyramid for at least three seasons prior to their 21st birthday - but under-21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

Premier League clubs have until Tuesday, October 20, to register their updated squads.
