Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick takes charge of his first pre-match press conference today (Monday) ahead of his side’s trip to Villarreal in the Champions League.
The match will be a first for the former Red Devils midfielder at the helm, with no timeframe given as to when a successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be named.
The search for a new permanent manager comes after a tough few months for Solskjaer and his backroom staff, slumping to eighth in the Premier League with one win in seven matches.
As for the Champions League standings, Carrick still has the group in the balance. United currently sit top with seven points, but Tuesday’s opponents Villarreal are in second with the same points and Serie A side Atalanta are in third just two points behind either team.
A win for the caretaker in his first match would leave the Old Trafford outfit in an ideal position with one game left to play.
It would place them three points clear of the La Liga side and with tied points being based on head-to-head results rather than goal difference, they would definitely finish above Unai Emery’s team heading into the final match of the group stage against Young Boys.
Carrick’s first press conference will be held at 1pm (GMT) Monday, November 22. The full press conference will be shown live on the official Manchester United website.
