Bristol weather latest - how long it's going to rain and UK warnings

Bristol is in for a soaking over the next two days, with only a brief let-up in the downpours.

The Met Office is forecasting a dreary time for the city and wider region as the heavens open and stay open.

Temperatures are milder than they have been recently, but that will be cold comfort to anyone out on their permitted exercise and essential journeys.

In their latest forecast, the Met Office said rain is due to start falling in Bristol from 11am on Friday and continue until 3pm on Saturday – apart from one hour between 6pm and 7pm today.

Of course, these forecasts aren’t always accurate to the minute, but the overall picture is looking very wet over the next two days.

Sunday looks better with just some light rain in late afternoon to early evening.

There are yellow severe weather warnings in place for parts of the South West and Wales from 9am on Friday to noon on Sunday.

But the alert zones do not reach Bristol, Somerset or Gloucestershire.

They cover an area from Plymouth to Exeter and a separate area in South Wales, including Cardiff.

People have been warned that persistent and at times heavy rain could result in flooding and disruption to transport and utilities.

Met Office South West forecast

Today: A wet and cloudy day, with prolonged rain arriving during the morning and persisting throughout, falling heavily at times, especially over Dartmoor. Mild, but this tempered by strong winds and coastal gales. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight: Heavy rain will affect much of the region, but especially Devon and Cornwall. Staying cloudy and today's strong winds continue. Mild. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Saturday: Further outbreaks of rain, heaviest to the south of or over higher ground. Some occasional drier spells further east. Mild, despite strong southerly winds. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: Early rain on Sunday soon clears eastwards, leaving sunny spells and showers. Light winds. Dry on Monday, with sunshine in the afternoon. Further rain and strong winds on Tuesday. Mild.
