When Met Office says heatwave could end with a bang in Bristol

The summer holidays are over, but we're still enjoying a bout of blistering weather, with temperatures reaching as high as 26C today (Monday September 6).

Bristol's heat is set to soar even higher tomorrow (Tuesday), reaching 28C, according to the Met Office and BBC Weather. After that though, the picture gets decidedly murkier.

"Heavy showers are possible on Wednesday and Thursday with a risk of thunder," the Met Office's forecast says. "Sunny spells on Friday with further showers. Turning cooler."

Saturday and Sunday, meanwhile, should each see highs of 20-21C and lows of 14C, though the chance of rain remains remote at 10 per cent or below.

Later in September, the Met Office says we're in for a "mixed" bag, "with areas of cloud and some showery rain along with increasing areas of good sunny spells and dry weather. There is a chance of sunnier, drier conditions moving in from the west or northwest during this time." And looking into the latter part of the month, "This rain could become heavy, particularly in the west and northwest, with thunderstorms possible throughout the UK."

So there we have it: this heatwave will last just a couple of days before usual service resumes. The moral of the story? Keep your umbrella close by!
