When McDonald's is reportedly planning to reopen UK restaurants

McDonald's is reportedly planning to reopen its restaurants.

According to the Irish Farmers Journal, the fast food chain is hoping to reopen its first UK branches by mid-May.

However, this does not mean you'll be able to dine in when that time comes, Mirror Online reports.

The process will start slowly, with food only available via delivery or from drive-throughs.

The Irish Farmers Journal reports the original plan was for branches to be closed until July, but this has been brought forwards.

The chain originally closed all its branches on March 23.

Burger King has already reopened some of its restaurants, paving the way for other outlets to do so.

At the time of the McDonald's closures, a spokesperson said: "This is not a decision we are taking lightly, but one made with the well-being and safety of our employees in mind as well as in the best interests of our customers.

"We will work with local community groups to responsibly distribute food and drink from our restaurants in the coming days."

KFC, Nandos, Five Guys and Pret have all said some branches would open to the public again.

However, all put heavy restrictions in place, including operating for delivery-only or just near NHS sites.
