When Manchester United could confirm Cristiano Ronaldo squad number

Manchester United's megastore are refusing to print Cristiano Ronaldo's name on shirts this weekend, but there could be an announcement coming.

Staff at the Old Trafford store have told customers they won't be printing Ronaldo's name until Tuesday — suggesting United could officially reveal the number before then.

The squad number Ronaldo gets in his second stint at United has been the subject of intense scrutiny. Edinson Cavani currently wears the iconic No.7 shirt that Ronaldo wore in his first Old Trafford spell and, under Premier League rules, wouldn't be able to change after United already submitted their squad list.

Numbers 12 and 15 are among those available to Ronaldo, with new signings this summer Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane taking the numbers 25 and 19 respectively.

United great Rio Ferdinand suggested Cavani could be willing to give over the no.7 to Ronaldo.

"Just to think Cavani could be the back-up for Ronaldo, it’s unbelievable," said Ferdinand, speaking on on his YouTube channel, FIVE.

"Cavani, I have to say, what a man. He saw who was coming to town and gave up the No.7 shirt."

But that remains to be seen, with the megastore making no promises to fans as things stand. Ronaldo has worn the No.28 and No.9 at other stages in his career, but they are also currently taken at United by Facundo Pellistri and Anthony Martial respectively.

A Ronaldo scarf-seller outside Old Trafford also sold out before midday.
