When Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest could now be played after Premier League postponement

Nottingham Forest's trip to face Leeds United at Elland Road this weekend has been postponed following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Premier League has confirmed.

All 10 scheduled top-flight matches will not go ahead this weekend, as revealed in a statement that reads: "At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

"To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game. Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course."

The Reds were originally set to travel to west Yorkshire on Monday for an 8pm kick-off against Leeds but the game will now be rescheduled. When that new date will fall remains to be seen.

With question marks still surrounding next week's scheduled match against Fulham and an international fortnight to follow, it is unlikely any rearranged date would be before October. Then comes the question of whether Premier League fixtures will be allowed to fall on designated UEFA club competition nights.

Assuming that will not be the case then one avenue that could be pursued is dependent on Carabao Cup third round results. Forest face Tottenham Hotspur while Leeds are in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Should both sides be eliminated at that stage of the competition at the start of November then a gap in the schedule could be opened up on the week commencing 19 December 2022 when the fourth round is due to take place. Likewise, should they both advance then another gap could present itself should both fall at the next hurdle before the fifth round, which is scheduled for the week commencing January 9, 2023.

However, it is a possibility that the Premier League may prefer all ten fixtures to be played during the same, which would mean waiting until the week commencing January 16, 2023.
