When it comes to Bears kickers, Matt Nagy feels your pain

Matt Nagy is no different from Chicago Bears fans when he watches his kickers miss field goals.

During Tuesday’s mini camp practice, Nagy had Chris Blewitt, Elliott Fry, and Eddy Pineiro attempt a 42 yard field goal with the “Augusta silence” treatment and every single member of the team watching.

All three missed in consecutive fashion, prompting Nagy to vent his frustration once practice concluded.

“Whatever went through your mind went through my mind” Nagy told reporters. “For us, as evaluators, if they all went 3-for-3 today, we wouldn’t be talking about it.”

Nagy still believes the team will get the position right, but he stressed that Tuesday’s practice was unacceptable.

“That’s about as real as it gets,” Nagy said. “They were 0-for-3 out there. And for today, that’s not good enough. I mean we can’t have that.”

The Bears kicking situation is a broken record at this point and the team is still approximately 45 days away from training camp.

Every single attempt in a team activity or mini camp practice is amplified and each miss raises more concern among players, coaches, and fans.

The team is throwing the kitchen sink at the situation, trying out, signing, or releasing around a dozen players since the end of the season, and creating extra pressure to simulate the magnitude of the moment.

Nagy knows this problem needs to be solved in order for the team to take the next step in 2019. Otherwise, he’ll have another thing in common with the fans — they’ll be watching the Super Bowl from home.
