Rumours had originally circulated that the event would see a unification bout Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim champion Justin Gaethje. However, this match-up has now been pushed back for UFC 254.
The headline fight between Adesanya and Costa has been rearranged twice having originally been scheduled for UFC 249 and again at UFC 251.

UFC 253 will take place on Saturday, September 26. The date was originally set for September 19.
The preliminary card will start in UK time at 1am, Sunday September 27 .

As of now, a destination has yet to be decided. Early rumours suggest that it could take place in Abu Dhabi.
