When is Twelfth Night 2022? Here's when you should take your Christmas tree down

As people across the country wake up this morning following last night's New Year's celebrations many will still find themselves surrounded by Christmas decorations.

Brits are still engaged in the age-old debate over the right time to box up the Yuletide decorations.

While some have already removed their lights, baubles and trees before New Year, many will still be clinging on to the festive spirit.

So the question is, when is the right time to take them all down?

People suffering from the previous year's hangover tend to pick January 1 as the date, but tradition states otherwise.

The Twelfth Night is the last day of the Twelve Days of Christmas, sometimes referred to as Christmastide, and it is the traditional end of the Yuletide season.

It is celebrated each year on January 5, which is also the Epiphany Eve.

The age-old Christian tradition is believed to be the right time to take down decorations as it marks the end of Christmas.

It is also thought to be bad luck to box up your decorations before and after the date.

But there is more confusion, as different traditions mark the date of the Twelfth Night on different dates - some on January 5 and others on January 6 - depending on whether the counting begins on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
