It will be the first World Cup that will be hosted in the Sub-Saharan region and also the first World Cup that will take place in the winter for European audiences.
Due to the sweltering conditions in the summer, the Qatar World Cup was moved to the winter when temperatures are cooler in the country and more hospitable for football.

The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar.
It is set to be the first World Cup held in a Muslim-majority country and only the second time that the tournament will be held entirely in the continent of Asia, after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.
When will the 2022 World Cup be held?
For the first time the World Cup will be held during European winter month of the year.
It will have a reduced 28-day schedule as the tournament is likely to disrupt most domestic tournaments around the world.
The tournament is currently scheduled to kick off on November 21st with the final set to be played on December 18th 2022.
The average temperatures reach 37 degrees Celsius in the month of July which necessitated the move to the winter months.
November to December was decided upon to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympic Games in February and Ramadan in April.
This means there could be early Christmas celebrations for the winners as the final will be held a week before Christmas Day.
How many teams will compete?
The 2022 World Cup will have 32 teams for the last time.
The next World Cup held in North America will have 16 new additions with 48 teams entering the competition in a bid to gain more exposure for lesser countries and expand the global scale of the tournament.
