This weekend, thousands of runners are taking over London’s streets during the marathon.

When is the London Marathon 2020?
A date has not yet been confirmed for the marathon next year, but usually they take place on one of the two last Sundays in April.
It could either be on April 19 or 26, 2020.

How to enter the marathon
There are two different ways to enter the London Marathon, by ballot or through a charity.
The date for the ballot has not been confirmed yet, but it usually opens about a week after the marathon, so this year it might be around May 6.
You will be able to sign up for free on the London Marathon website and find out if you got a place in October.

Entering through a charity
If you don’t get in by ballot, you can enter through a charity by raising a minimum amount of money.
On the London Marathon website you can find a list of charities that are going to take part in the event.
Getting ready
To get ready physically, you should start training early, usually about a year before the marathon.
Start small, you shouldn’t immediately run the full 26.2 miles. Start with 5k or 10k, then work yourself towards longer distances.

To increase your capacity, try intervals of running at full speed. You should run about three to five days a week and get some rest in between.
It is advised to keep yourself hydrated throughout the run and especially in the days leading up to the marathon.
