When is the Killing Eve season 4 release date and what can we expect from the final series?

Between recent action comedy film Free Guy and tonight’s Channel 4 care home drama, Help, it’s been a busy year for Jodie Comer.

The Liverpudlian actress will star as Sarah, a young care assistant working in a fictional Liverpool care home at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in Channel 4’s special 120-minute feature film.

But as Comer returns to the small screen, Killing Eve fans are wondering when she will be back in action as Russian assassin Villanelle in the fourth and final series of BBC’s hit spy thriller.

So when is the Killing Eve season four release date and which of the cast members will return for the BAFTA-winning show’s final outing? Here’s what we know so far.

Who is in the Killing Eve cast?

Jodie Comer

Jodie Comer leads the Killing Eve cast as Oksana Astankova, the psychopathic Russian assassin more commonly known as Villanelle.

The 28-year-old actress, who has won both an Emmy and BAFTA award for her Killing Eve role, is also known for starring in E4 comedy series My Mad Fat Diary, as well as in Ryan Reynolds’ recent action comedy film Free Guy.

Sandra Oh

Multi award-winning actress Sandra Oh stars opposite Comer as Eve Polastri, the MI6 agent tasked with pursuing Villanelle.

Outside of Killing Eve, Oh is best-known for her long-running role as Cristina Yang on ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy.

She most recently voiced the character of Virana in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and served as executive producer and series lead for Netflix comedy series, The Chair.

Fiona Shaw

Also reprising her BAFTA-winning role from Killing Eve’s earlier seasons is Fiona Shaw, who will once again play Carolyn Martens, head of MI6’s Russia Section.

Shaw has recently appeared in BBC drama Baptiste and Netflix’s Enola Holmes, and has a guest role in the award-winning TV series Fleabag.

Other Killing Eve cast members likely to make an appearance in the final series include:

  • Kim Bodnia as Konstantin

  • Gemma Whelan as Geraldine

  • Camille Cottin as Hélène

  • Danny Sapani as Jamie

  • Turlough Convery as Bear

  • Ayoola Smart as Audrey

  • Owen McDonnell as Owen

What to expect from Killing Eve season 4

The plot for series four is being kept tightly under wraps, but it’s a fairly safe bet that Villanelle will continue to kill, and that her and Eve’s mutual obsession will carry on, despite the pair seemingly going their separate ways in the series three finale.

But will they finally get their happily ever after? And will Villanelle get to break out of her life as an assassin? Only time will tell.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge adapted the first series of Killing Eve from Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle novel, before handing her head writer role to Emerald Fennell for the follow-up series.

Now, Sex Education’s Laura Neal will take over from season three writer Suzanne Heathcote to pen the final eight-part series, with executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle warning viewers to “buckle up” as “there’s so much more to come.”

When is the Killing Eve series 4 release date?

Following delays due to Covid-19, filming for the fourth and final series of Killing Eve began in June this year, with the show currently set to premiere on BBC around April or June 2022.

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday, September 15, series star Comer said: “It’s very surreal. We’re just about to start the final two episodes, so it’s crazy.

“It’s been four years of all of our lives and we just want to make sure that we end it on a good note that’s satisfying for the audience but also is truthful to the characters.”

Help airs on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm
