When is the Euro 2020 playoff draw and who could Northern Ireland meet?

Northern Ireland have secured a Euro 2020 playoff berth .

They are joined by the Republic of Ireland and Scotland in this week's draw.

Here's some information on the key dates for your diary:

When is the draw for the playoffs made?

The draw for the playoffs takes place at 11am UK time next Friday, November 22 – three days after the final qualifiers take place.

When will the games be played?

The semi-finals will be played on March 26 next year with the finals on March 31.

Which nations will be taking part?

The 16 best-performing nations from the UEFA Nations League who do not qualify automatically for Euro 2020 get a playoff place.

There are 20 teams who can still take part in the playoffs, with four automatic places to be decided.

How do the playoffs work?

Each League path will have two semifinals and a final, played next March. All games are played over one game and not home and away legs.

In the semifinals, the best-ranked team from the Nations League path will be at home to face the fourth-ranked team, and the second-ranked team will host the third-best team.

At present that means:

  • League A: Iceland will have a home tie
  • League B: Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a home tie
  • League C: Norway vs. Serbia; Scotland will have a home tie
  • League D: Georgia vs. Belarus, North Macedonia vs. Kosovo

Slovakia v Republic of Ireland

What about the draw for the finals?

The draw for the group stages of the Euro 2020 finals will take place at 5pm UK time on Saturday, November 30. Four group stage spots will be left open as we await the playoffs.
