When is the Bad Vegan release date on Netflix and what is the documentary about?

Netflix has announced the release date of the new documentary series, Bad Vegan: fame, fraud and fugitives. The documentary will be a four-part series from Chris Smith, who is the executive producer of Tiger King and director of Fyre: The Greatest Party that Never Happened.

The Netflix documentary tells the story of the celebrity restauranter Sarma Melngailis, who owned the restaurant Pure Food and Wine, and her scandalous journey from being known as the queen of vegan cuisine to being known as a ‘'vegan fugitive'’. The trailer for the Netflix documentary is also available to watch on the official Netflix YouTube channel.

Pure Food and Wine was a widely successful vegan restaurant that boasted celebrity customers, including Owen Wilson who, as mentioned in the trailer, would sometimes roam through the back just to see the kitchen. The Netflix documentary highlights how the owner Sarma lost all this success after a series of regretful decisions.

When is the Bad Vegan release date on Netflix?

Bad Vegan: fame, fraud and fugitives will be available to watch on Netflix UK on March 16th 2022 from 8.01 am BST.

What is the documentary about?

Bad Vegan: fame, fraud and fugitives sheds light on the true story of the queen of vegan cuisine, Sarma Melngailis and how she became a ‘'vegan fugitive'. This infamous journey started shortly after Melngailis met Shane Fox on Twitter in 2011. From this encounter, Sarma then began draining funds from her restaurant and then transferring the money to Fox.

This was all because Sarma had bought into the idea that Fox could make her dreams come true. These dreams included expanding her food empire and even making her beloved pet pitbull immortal. Sarma was told by Fox that all this would become a reality if she were to just continue funnelling money to him and all his requests, without question.

Fox and Melngailis eventually got married but eventually got caught after stealing nearly $2m from the restaurant and its staff. Bad Vegan will interview the staff and Sharma herself to investigate further about the details of what went on in this scandalous time.
