When is SQA exams results day? What time will grades be announced and how can I appeal?

Scottish exams results are set to be announced this week with students across the country eagerly awaiting their grades.

Grades will drop through letterboxes and flash up on emails as kids in Scotland find out how well they did at school over the last year.

Like last year it will be very different for those looking to go to university or college.

With exams cancelled for a second year due to the covid pandemic the results are not based on exams but grades given on a number of assessments.

The majority of children will already know their grades as they have been given provisional ones already, however later this week they will be allowed to appeal them.

Here's all you need to know about results day in Scotland:

When will the results be announced?

Pupils across Scotland will be able to receive their results on Tuesday, August 10.

By signing up to a MySQA account children will be able to access their results by email or text message from 8am.

Those wanting to do it the old fashioned away can wait for the postman to deliver the news.

Everyone will receive their results in the post regardless if they accessed them online.

If something is wrong with the certificate you receive then the SQA Candidate Advice line can be reached on 0345 279 1000.

Why is it different this year?

The coronavirus pandemic has caused chaos across many parts of our lives and education was no different.

Children spent the majority of the pandemic learning from home as teachers delivered lessons over Zoom.

There were no exams this year in Scotland's schools, however instead an alternation certification model was put in place.

All National 5, Higher and Advanced Highers this year are determined by the model.

Teachers used a range of assessments to decide what each pupil should be given in terms of grade.

After the fiasco last year the SQA is hoping there won't be any fall out this summer, however kids can still appeal their grade and they can do it from Tuesday, August 10.

How can I appeal?

There a number of reason why you may want to appeal your grades this year, they are:

  • An appeal against the academic judgement made
  • An appeal against an unresolved administrative error
  • An appeal on grounds of discrimination where:
    • There has been a breach of the Equality Act 2010 (which must have been either acknowledged by your school, college or training provider or established by a court or the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman), or
    • Your school, college or training provider failed to provide agreed Assessment Arrangements.
