Fans will be waiting a while as Netflix has confirmed that the new series will air in November 2022, with Imelda Staunton playing Queen Elizabeth.

Netflix announced the news during their TUDUM fan event with a video of Imelda on the set of the series. She told fans that they had just begun filming the series.

She said: "On behalf of the cast and crew, we look forward to bringing you the next season of The Crown in November 2022."

Imelda also added that her stomach was "doing somersaults" at playing the key role of the Queen previously played during her younger days by Claire Foy and Olivia Colman, who she praised as "outstanding actresses".

The new series will also see Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Dominic West as Prince Charles. The previous series won 11 Emmy awards, including Outstanding Drama Series.

The Crown will air on Netflix in November 2022.
