Scotland’s squad for Euro 2020 will be announced on Wednesday as the country heads for its first major men’s tournament in 23 years.
The play-off win over Serbia now seems a long time ago, when David Marshall saved from Aleksandar Mitrovic to clinch a dramatic shootout victory.
Scotland have been drawn in Group D and will first face Czech Republic at Hampden Park on 13 June, before taking on England at Wembley and then facing Croatia in their final group game.
The squad will feature 26 players, with three more than usual tournaments due to the pandemic adding strain to the football calendar this season and helping managers deal with any potential outbreak in their squad. Five substitutes per game will be confirmed.
When is Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad announcement?
The Scotland squad will be announced today, Wednesday 19 May, at 12pm BST. Steve Clarke will speak to the media at 2pm BST.
How to watch on TV and online
The subsequent press conference with Steve Clarke will be broadcast live on Sky Sports News, while @ScotlandNT will stream online live on Twitter and Facebook.
Who is definitely out of the squad?
Norwich’s Kenny McClean, Sheffield United’s Oli McBurnie, Rangers’ Ryan Jack are all out. Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser may well be included in the squad but is a concern.
How is Clarke likely to set up his team?
Scotland have deployed a wing-back system in recent times, which allows both Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney and Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, the national captain, to feature together, with Tierney on the left side of a back three. Grant Hanley and Jack Hendry could also line up in defence in front of goalkeeper David Marshall. A central pairing of Aston Villa’s John McGinn and Manchester United’s Scott McTominay is expected, behind a front three likely to feature Southampton duo Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong.
