Rory McIlroy will look to bounce back from a slow start to the Open as he embarks on his second round today.
Poor putting was his undoing as he signed off on +2, sitting tied in 85th place.
The Northern Irishman remains in pursuit of his second major title of 2026, but was unfortunate to tee off in high winds on day one. He then struggled to content with sun-baked greens and his own generally erratic play.
He will hope for a more productive day two, though he already has a mountain to climb as he sits seven strokes adrift of runaway leader Jackson Suber.
When is Rory McIlroy playing at the Open today?
McIlroy tees off at 10.09am BST on day two - Friday, July 17, 2026 - at the Royal Birkdale.
He will play in the same trio as he did on day one, alongside Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick.
What time does the Open start?
The first group of the day, comprised of John Parry, Eric Cole, and Tiger Christensen, tees off at 6.35am BST.
