Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a long-awaited prequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem. Set 15 years before the events of the second game, it focuses on Sophia’s (introduced in Requiem) adventures on the vibrant coast of Crete, Greece.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a radical departure for the A Plague Tale franchise. Stealth, puzzles, and emotional storytelling are still vital parts of this latest entry. However, in addition to these, a fast-paced melee combat system is introduced.

Resonance: A Plague Tale launches August 27, 2026, on PC (Steam, Epic Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass (Ultimate) and is an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is Sophia’s story, a fierce and charismatic treasure hunter on the run to uncover secrets of her past. Sophia’s thirst for answers brings her to Minotaur Island, a place full of deadly trials, ingenious puzzles, and treacherous trails.

However, these aren’t the only obstacles that await Sophia. A mysterious threat lurks in the shadows, possibly linked to the enigmatic Macula.

Sophia isn’t the only playable character in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The game’s story unravels across two different timelines – Sophia’s and ancient Minoan civilization. During the latter, you get to play as the legendary Greek hero Theseus, whose actions in the past shape the battles of Sophia’s in the present.

Melee combat takes center stage in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. Sophia can dual-wield swords and rain down a flurry of attacks with or without locking on to an enemy. Fallen enemies drop their weapons, and Sophia can pick and throw them at archers and other enemies in the distance.

Parrying is vital and works similarly to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Enemies have a parry meter, which once filled, allows Sophia to deal a stylishly brutal killing blow. Defeating enemies grants Resonance Points, which Sophia can use to unlock new abilities.

Like previous games, puzzles are a major aspect of the gameplay in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. Sophia carries a stolen Minoan sphere to solve daunting puzzles. Most of these puzzles may include rotating pillars to manipulate light and open up new pathways.

Overall, it seems there’s a healthy balance of intense combat encounters and intricate puzzles that provide much breathing room between story cutscenes.
