Every year, we take one day and dedicate it to those that have died in service or continue to represent our country in the armed forces.
Armistice Day or Remembrance Day as it is also known is always marked on November 11 each year with a two minutes silence held across the country at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month.
Thousands of volunteers will take to the streets to help distribute millions of poppies ahead of Remembrance Sunday which this year actually falls on November 10.
The Royal British Legion launched their annual Poppy Appeal campaign which helps to raise vital funds for the Armed Forces community.
While the fundraising drive commemorates those that have died, the money raised is for serving and former members of the Armed Forces and their families to honour the sacrifices that they have made.
This year, the RBL aim to raise over £50m to help support to Armed Forces community .
The appeal was launched with the help of Countdown star Rachel Riley who went "undercover" as a Poppy Appeal collector to celebrate the thousands of volunteers who give up their free time each year to support the campaign.
The Operation Poppy campaign - which is being supported by GCHQ - the Government's intelligence, cyber and security agency - is encouraging members of the public to solve cryptic clues developed by GCHQ's codebreakers to reveal who the secret collectors are.
Manchester Poppy Day will also take place on Thursday, November 7 with events happening from 7am until 6pm at seven locations across the city including in the Manchester Arndale and Intu Trafford Centre as well as Piccadilly Station, Victoria Station and Oxford Road Station.
The Poppy Bus will also be touring the city.
