When is Primark reopening in the UK? Primark responds to news stores can reopen next month

High street retailer Primark has responded to last night's Government daily briefing in which Boris Johnson stated all non-essential shops could reopen on June 15.

Primark stores have remained closed since March 23, when ordered to do so by the Government to prevent further spread of coronavirus.

However, during last night's briefing details were given on the next stages of lockdown and the steps that will be implemented to ease restrictions.

These include outdoor markets and car showrooms able to open from June 1 and all other shops from June 15.

Before being allowed to reopen on these dates, businesses will need to have completed a risk assessment, in consultation with trade union representatives or workers.

They will need to be confident they are managing the risks going forward and have taken the necessary steps to become ‘COVID-19 secure’, in line with Health and Safety legislation.

Since last night's briefing, Primark fans began tweeting the retailer, sharing their excitement at being able to shop at its stores again, however Primark remained coy in its reply - not indicating if it will reopen on June 15 or not.

Replying to one fan who had shared a tweet which said: "@Primark here I come lol" Primark replied: "Hi Jo! With the health and safety of our staff and customers in front of mind, our stores are closed until further notice."

Last month Primark revealed it had as much as £1.5billion worth of unsold stock in its warehouses, with no way to shift it, with experts predicting a huge sale when stores open their doors again.

Hargreaves Lansdown analyst Sophie Lund-Yates said: "This could mean bumper sales when shops reopen, as sales stickers are one of the quickest ways to shift excess items."

The ECHO has contacted Primark for further details on its reopening plans.
