When will Nicola Sturgeon speak today and how to watch the lockdown update

Scotland will learn its new lockdown rules later today when Nicola Sturgeon delivers her latest update to the Scottish Parliament.

While she has already said that no area will remain under level four coronavirus restrictions, including West Lothian, the First Minister refused to be drawn on details ahead of her announcement this afternoon.

At her daily update yesterday Nicola Sturgeon said key signs showed that the Covid pandemic was close to being back under control in Scotland.

Changes to Scotland's five-tier system of coronavirus lockdown rules will be announced today, and could come into effect as early as Friday, with the Cabinet making a final decision on what level each council is placed into.

"Our decisions will be based on the trajectory of the virus in each local authority area, as well as the need to protect capacity in the NHS, and we will also consider the social and economic harms that come from the restrictions," Ms Sturgeon said.

The First Minister did not rule out the possibility of an area moving up a level, from level two to three for example, but did say none of the 11 areas currently in level four would stay there.

How to watch Nicola Sturgeon's lockdown review today and what time is it

The First Minister's update today will be in the Scottish Parliament, rather than the usual format of the daily briefing. She will face question from MSPs after the update rather than from the media.

We expect Nicola Sturgeon to speak around 2.20pm - but this can change depending on the debates directly before her update.
