When is Mother's Day 2022 - and why does it change every year?

Mother's Day is almost upon us as sons, daughters, wives, and husbands rush to buy the usual gifts of cards, flowers, and chocolates for their special women.

In Ireland Mother's Day will happen this coming Sunday, March 27.

And while the date will be different most years, Mother's Day generally falls on the last Sunday of March.

It can also change to avoid a clash with Easter celebrations.

If you didn't already know Mother's Day has a different date in Ireland compared to America.

In America, Mother's Day will fall on May 8 in 2022.

The route of acknowledging the importance of mothers could date back as far as the ancient Greeks and Romans.

In those times, festivals for mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele were held, while in modern times, Mother's Day is more closely aligned to Christianity and the festival, "Mothering Sunday."
