When is 'Mortal Kombat II' coming to streaming? Here's our best guess

Ludi Lin as “Liu Kang”, Mehcad Brooks as “Jackson ‘Jax’ Briggs”, Jessica McNamee as “Sonya Blade”, and Karl Urban as “Johnny Cage” in "Mortal Kombat 2" film (2026).

Five years after 2021's "Mortal Kombat" brought the violent fighting to life on the big screen (for the third time), the sequel has arrived. "Mortal Kombat II" sees movie star Johnny Cage (Karl Urban) being brought into the fray by Raiden (Tadanobu Asano) and Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee). Cage and the other participants are here to take part in the ultimate fighting tournament and to take down Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford).

In her "Mortal Kombat II" review, fellow TG writer Alix Blackburn said the film "delivers plenty of brutal fatalities, stunning fight choreography, and fan-pleasing spectacle" and that it was a "stronger, more confident sequel" to the first film. It looks like this sequel has landed well with fans, too, as the film has an 89% Popcornmeter score over on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you'd prefer to skip the rush to theaters and instead watch "Mortal Kombat II" at home, we don't currently have confirmed home release or streaming dates for the newly-released sequel — but below, I've tried to predict when you might be able to watch "Mortal Kombat II" at home.

When is 'Mortal Kombat II' coming to streaming?

"Mortal Kombat II" hit theaters and IMAX screens in the US on Friday, May 8, so if you want to see all the action as soon as possible, check your nearest theater's listings and plan a trip to the cinema.

If you're waiting to follow Johnny Cage and co.'s new adventure at home, the first place you'll be able to watch "Mortal Kombat II" at home will be via Premium Video-On-Demand (PVOD) storefronts like Prime Video and Apple TV. And right now, I'd guess you'll be able to watch the film this way on or around Tuesday, August 9, 2026.

That's because we've typically waited about a month for the digital release of recent Warner Bros. movies. "Weapons," "The Conjuring: Last Rites," and "Superman" all arrived on PVOD around a month after release, as did "The Bride!" and "They Will Kill You." Likewise, "Lee Cronin's The Mummy" is due to land on PVOD next week, a month after its theatrical premiere.

"Wuthering Heights" and "One Battle After Another" are the two outliers here, as both took around six/seven weeks (46 and 49 days, respectively). I would assume (unless it really takes off at the box office), "Mortal Kombat II" would follow the lead of most WB Pictures releases, rather than these two.

As for the film's potential streaming release, as "Mortal Kombat II" is a Warner Bros. movie, you can expect it to premiere on HBO Max. And if you're looking for a potential "Mortal Kombat II" streaming date, right now, I'd guess the film will come to HBO Max in late July 2026, possibly July 24.

Typically, new movies come to HBO Max on Fridays roughly 70-80 days after they first hit theaters. Again, looking at past Warner Bros. Pictures releases, "Weapons," "The Conjuring: Last Rites," and "Wuthering Heights" all came to HBO Max 77 days after they premiered. Meanwhile, "Superman" arrived a little quicker (70 days after it first soared into theaters), but "One Battle After Another" came to HBO Max 84 days after release.

It pays to remember that, right now, we do not have a confirmed PVOD or streaming date for "Mortal Kombat II"; everything I've written here is my best guess. As soon as we hear anything official from Warner Bros. or HBO Max, we'll update this article.
