The threat of flooding during Storm Dennis is not over yet with several flood alerts still in place over Sunday.
The Environment Agency has now confirmed that Sunday is a record-breaking day due to the sheer number of flood warnings and alerts in England.
With a total of 596 flood alerts and warnings issued, there are now more warnings in force than any other day on record.
At the moment the tide is falling, but it will start to rise again just before 4pm.
The tide will be at its highest tonight just after 9pm in the North East.
The Environment Agency is continuing to monitor river levels and checking flood defences as the high tide time approaches.
In Durham city centre, the River Wear burst its banks during high tide at around 7am, with the Framwellgate Waterside road remaining closed due to the floodwater.

- Upper River Tees at Barnard Castle
The number of flood alerts in our region has reduced from 12 on Sunday morning.
A rain weather warning covering parts of the North East is due to end at 9pm but strong winds are still expected overnight and into Monday morning.
