When is GCSE results day in 2021?

Secondary school students are set to receive their GCSE results a little earlier this summer after exams were scrapped for the second successive year.

Amid the ongoing pandemic, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson unveiled earlier this year that the government and Ofqual were putting 'trust in teachers' instead.

Teachers will have given thousands of students in England their grades based on coursework, mock exams, and other evidence when determining grades, such as in-class tests.

Exam boards also provided teachers with optional assessment questions for students to answer to help schools decide which grades to award.

As a result of the changes, results days have been brought forward to give students enough time to appeal if they're unhappy.

When is GCSE results day?

Usually, students receive their results in mid to late August.

But this summer, A-level students will receive their results on Tuesday , August 10 and GCSE pupils will receive their results two days later on Thursday, August 12.

No algorithm has been used by the regulator this year to standardise teachers’ grades if they appeared too generous.

The decision comes after last year's fiasco, where thousands of students had their results downgraded from school estimates by a controversial algorithm.

Following a public outcry, Ofqual announced a U-turn which allowed them to use teachers’ predictions.

Teachers this year submitted their grades to exam boards by June 18, who then carried out quality assurance checks through a combination of random sampling and more targeted scrutiny.
