When is Eurovision 2023? Liverpool gears up to host contest for UK and Ukraine

There are now just a few months to go until this year's Eurovision Song Contest, as Liverpool does the honours for the United Kingdom.

While it was Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra who topped the leaderboard in Italy back in May with their track Stefania, it was decided by the European Broadcasting Union that the war torn country wouldn't be able to host this year.

After the BBC agreed to take on the contest for the UK, a number of cities submitted bids to stage Eurovision, including Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds, with those whittled down to Liverpool and Glasgow, before Merseyside won the day.

The Eurovision semi final draw and official handover took place in Liverpool on Tuesday, January 31; signalling the countdown for this year's competition, with a few countries already selecting their entries for 2023. It's widely rumoured that, after Sam Ryder finished a fantastic second for the UK last year, the UK entry for this time round will be announced in March.

When is Eurovision Song Contest 2023?

As will all of the contests that have taken place since 2004, there will be semi finals before the final, meaning that Liverpool will witness a packed week of music.

The first semi final will be on Tuesday, May 9, with the second on Thursday, May 11 and the grand final on Saturday, May 13.

Liverpool's Pier Head will be the venue for the Eurovision fan zone, the event's organisers have revealed. The Eurovision village, which will be open between May 5 and 12, will be homed on the site, which lies close to the venue for the contest itself - the M&S Bank Arena

When will tickets go on sale?

It has been reported that ticket information will be released at the end of February.
