After a tense opening half hour, which saw Jordan Pickford called into action, Gareth Southgate's men broke the deadlock when a low Jude Bellingham cross found Jordan Henderson in the box, with the Liverpool skipper firing home.
England doubled their lead shortly before the break via skipper Harry Kane, who got on the end of a square pass from Phil Foden and blasted past Edouard Mendy. It was more of the same after the break, when Foden was again the provider, this time for Bukayo Saka, who capped a fine England move with their third goal of the evening on 57 minutes.
That was enough to secure safe passage into the quarter-finals and set up a date with France, who saw off Poland 3-1 earlier on Sunday.
