When is Criminal season 2 on Netflix? Everything you need to know

Criminal is soon set to return to Netflix for its second season with a new and exciting cast.

Kit Harington has been announced as one of the suspects for the upcoming season of the crime drama - it'll be his first major role since he played the iconic Game of Thrones character Jon Snow.

Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar, Catastrophe's Sharon Horgan, and Oscar-nominated Sophie Okonedo will also be in the hot seat for the four-part series set in an interrogation room.

They'll follow the likes of David Tennant and Hayley Atwell who featured in the debut season.

When is it back on TV?

Criminal season two is coming to Netflix on September 16.

In each episode, a suspect is questioned by a team of police officers, each with a story to tell - but there's a twist.

Season one's police team was made up of Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly, Line of Duty's Rochenda Sandall, Broadchurch's Lee Ingleby, along with Shubham Saraf and Nicholas Pinnock.

Detective roles look the same for the next installment judging by the trailer.

The official synopsis says: "Four new cases, four new suspects, one room that changes everything. Criminal returns September 16th with guest stars Kit Harington, Kunal Nayyar, Sharon Horgan and Sophie Okonedo. Every suspect has their story. Whose will you believe?"

Criminal creators Jim Field Smith and George Kay have previously said the format of the show is designed for viewers to question their own prejudices; from what the suspect is wearing, to their accent.

While the first series was set in different countries with three counterparts, season two is based in the UK, and was filmed in January before lockdown.

Season 1 of Criminal is available to stream on Netflix now.
