When is Christmas Jumper Day 2020 and what does it raise money for?

Although 2020 has been dominated by the coronavirus pandemic, which has changed people's lives beyond recognition, there's one festive event that is still going ahead.

Christmas Jumper Day.

Many people who are working from home as a result of the pandemic can still join in by wearing their festive knitwear on online calls with their colleagues. And school kids can also participate if they are in class.

So there's no excuse to get out of it this year.

It's a great way to add a dash of colour - and bad taste jumpers - to virtual meetings and bring a bit of cheer in the absence of the usual office party.

More than 3.7 million have already signed up to the day, which raises money for the charity Save the Children.

And it's not too late to join in - as the day takes place today (December 11).

All you have to do is to wear a festive jumper on the day and people are encouraged to make a small £2 donation to the charity, or £1 for schoolchildren.

People are also being urged to wear their knits while out running, cycling or walking for the first 11 days of December.

The charity says £6 could buy a face shield for a health worker in Yemen and £10 could fund antibiotics for five children with malnutrition.
