Punters, bookies and those in the industry have been looking forward to the festival since it ended in March of last year and that wait is almost over.

Here's all you meed to know about the race meeting this year;

How many races are there in total?

There will be seven races on each of the four separate days making it 28 races in total for the racing festival.

Which are the main races?

Each day will have a feature race with the Gold Cup on Friday at 3:30pm being the main one of the whole festival with the most lucrative prize money.

Tuesday's feature race is the Unibet Champion Hurdle at 3:30pm, Wednesday's main race is Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3:30pm while Thursday's main one will be the Ryanair Chase at 2:50pm.

Could coronavirus halt the festival?

There are fears that the coronavirus could cancel the whole festival or put it behind closed doors but at the moment that doesn't seem too likley.

The decision though will ultimately come down to the British Government.

The British Horseracing Authority is keeping a close eye on the situation, in consultation with ministers, with the start of the Cheltenham Festival a week away tomorrow.

“Following its Cobra meeting, Government has today reiterated its position that business should continue as usual at present across the country, and that focus should continue to be placed on following their advice regarding controlling the spread of the disease," a BHA spokesperson said.
