When is BBC Points West on? Programme delayed and cut short due to Ukraine crisis

This evening's edition of BBC Points West has been delayed due to the Ukraine crisis. Alex Lovell, one of the primary presenters of the show, confirmed the news on Twitter today.

"Hey Folks," she tweeted, "Understandably the network news is longer tonight. We’ll see you at 7pm." The post was retweeted by the official BBC West Twitter account.

Ordinarily, Points West begins at 6.30pm and lasts until 7pm. For tonight, however, the BBC iPlayer schedule shows Points West as starting at 7pm and ending at 7.25pm, when a five-minute party political broadcast from the Green party will air.

This means the show will be five minutes shorter than usual. The One Show, meanwhile, which usually airs at 7pm on BBC One, has been shifted to BBC Two, replacing Yorkshire Firefighters.

This is all in aid of a longer, hour-long edition of the BBC News at Six. While Lovell and the BBC have not explicitly said why the show will be longer, the implication was that it was due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine this morning - which is backed up by the show's thumbnail showing a composite image of Vladimir Putin, a tank, and the Russian and Ukrainian flags.

The rest of the evening's BBC One schedule is as follows:

  • 7.30pm: Eastenders
  • 8pm: Dragons' Den
  • 9pm: The Apprentice
  • 10pm: BBC News at Ten
  • 10.45pm: Points West
  • 10.50pm: BBC Weather
  • 10.55pm: Question Time
  • 11.55pm: Newscast
