When is Anthony Yarde vs Sergey Kovalev? Fight date, ring walk time, TV channel and undercard

Anthony Yarde has made a 3,000 mile trip to Russia to take on formidable world champion Sergey Kovalev.

Yarde has won all 18 of his professional fights to date - and 17 of those victories have come by way of KO.

His overall experience - 30 fights as both amateur and professional - pales into insignificance when compared to Kovalev.

Yarde will take a huge step up against the Russian who defends the world title he won back from Eleider Alvarez earlier this year.

The 36-year-old lost his undefeated status to Andre Ward in 2016 before losing his first fight against Alvarez last year.

Latest news

Anthony Yarde's only sparring partner for the toughest fight of his life has been his very own Mr. Miyagi.

The Londoner has travelled 3,000 miles to take on light-heavyweight world champion Sergey Kovalev in deepest, darkest Russia.

Kovalev has racked up 28 knockouts from his 33 victories and will walk out for his 16th successive world title fight on Saturday.

But despite the formidable task in front of him, Yarde has shunned traditional training methods in favour of trading blows with his mentor Tunde Ajayi.

The 28-year-old's preparation is reminiscent of Daniel LaRusso's schooling in the acclaimed film The Karate Kid.

"I am Anthony's sparring partner because I believe, just like in the old karate movies, the teacher is the trainer of the student," said Ajayi.

"I have developed a system which I know is capable of bringing a fighter from an embryonic stage to the stage we are at now.

"It's that belief in myself and the belief Anthony has in himself and in me and my system which explains why we are here today - all will be revealed on Saturday night."

Yarde plotting upset against Kovalev

Anthony Yarde is confident he can cause an upset and dethrone Sergey Kovalev.

The Brit must travel to Russia for his first shot at a world title - but is in a confident mood.

"I have been doing my apprenticeship as a boxer in public because things have escalated for me so quickly. But I guess if you keep knocking people out then it is going to get attention very quickly," he told the Evening Standard .

"Every year as a professional I have been further ahead than I planned.

"Now I feel as if I have the beating of all the world champions out there and if I get the Kovalev fight, I won’t be fazed.

"It is a difficult juggling act when you knock people out so regularly because you also want to get experience in the ring. But that is what the people want to see and if it is there for the taking, you have to go for it.

"It has meant growing up as a fighter under a lot of but that’s the way it is and I'm happy to deal with that. I know that I am ready."
