When is Andy Murray playing at Wimbledon and why is he not in the singles?

Wimbledon is upon us once again and Andy Murray is back at SW19.

The Brit missed last year's tournament, withdrawing shortly before it was due to start as he struggled to come back from hip surgery.

It was an injury that eventually led to Murray announcing his apparent retirement in January this year... but he's not done yet.

He had his latest operation shortly after that emotional press conference at the Australian Open and it went better than he could have hoped.

Now he's back at Wimbledon and here's when you can see him in action.

WHEN IS MURRAY PLAYING AT WIMBLEDON?

Murray is playing in the Men's Doubles this year alongside Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Their first match together is on Wednesday.

They'll face Marius Copil and Ugo Humbert.

WHO IS HIS PARTNER?

Herbert has won the career Grand Slam in doubles, wrapping it up with the Australian Open earlier this year alongside Nicolas Mahut.

He enjoyed Wimbledon success in 2016.

The 28-year-old is also in the singles competition at SW19 and faces Kevin Anderson in the first round today.

He has never progressed beyond the third round of a singles competition at a Grand Slam event.

"Great partner... Andy chooses his partner well, as we have seen with Feliciano," Greg Rusedski told the Express when quizzed about Murray joining up with Herbert.

"He will have known that he will be the right man for him with Pierre-Hugues Herbert."

IS MURRAY PLAYING IN THE SINGLES?

The 32-year-old isn't playing singles tennis just yet as he continues to come back to full fitness.

He is playing pain-free for the first time in years and is proceeding with caution, resisting the temptation to come back too soon.

He is targeting a return to singles tennis in September.

“It’s baby steps just now. I’m feeling good, pretty much pain free and enjoying kind of just training, practising, improving all the time just now," he said last month.

“I don’t think when Wimbledon finishes that I will just step onto the singles court the following week and everything’s good.

“I still have quite a lot of work to do before I’m at a level where I feel like I’ll be able to be competitive."

IS MURRAY PLAYING IN THE MIXED DOUBLES?

He has plans to but has so far drawn a blank in his search for a partner.

However, Serena Williams, recovering from knee trouble, set tongues wagging earlier this week when he revealed her availability to play alongside Murray.

And it certainly caught Murray's attention.

“She’s arguably the best player ever,” Murray said. “It would be a pretty solid partner.”

Murray has until 11am on Wednesday to enter the mixed doubles tournament.
