When is A-level results day in 2021 and what time do grades come out?

A-level results day will be brought forward slightly this summer following changes to how pupils are graded.

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson said 'trust will be put in teachers' after GCSE and A-level exams were cancelled for the second successive year amid the ongoing pandemic.

Teachers will have given thousands of students in England their grades based on coursework, mock exams, and other evidence when determining grades, such as in-class tests.

Exam boards provided teachers with optional assessment questions for students to answer to also help schools decide which grades to award.

As a result of the changes, results days will be a little earlier this year to give students enough time to appeal if they're unhappy.

W hen is A-level results day?

Usually, students receive their results in mid to late August.

But this summer, A-level students will receive their results on Tuesday, August 10 and GCSE pupils will receive their results two days later on Thursday, August 12.

You can pick your results up anytime from 8am , or whenever your school or college opens on the day.

It is hoped that bringing forward the dates will ensure that A-level students have enough time to log any appeals so that they do not miss out on their preferred university place for the autumn.

Meanwhile, no algorithm has been used by regulator Ofqual this year to standardise teachers’ grades if they appeared too generous.

The decision comes after last year's fiasco, where thousands of A-level students had their results downgraded from school estimates by a controversial algorithm.

Following a public outcry, Ofqual announced a U-turn which allowed them to use teachers’ predictions.
