Gym bunnies and swimming fans have been given a provisional reopening date by the Scottish Government - although each has some more time to wait before they can work out indoors once again.
Scotland remains in phase three of lockdown, the First Minister confirmed today, stating that coronavirus still poses ‘significant risk to public health’.
The news means that reopenings will continue to be staggered in the coming weeks and months, with three-weekly reviews set to confirm the latest lockdown news.
For many, the question remains; when will gyms be open?
It’s a contentious issue, with many complaining that pubs and restaurants have been able to reopen long before places geared towards exercise and healthy living - although the government response has been that activities that involve heavy breathing, such as strenuous exercise, may pose more of a risk indoors.
According to the latest Scottish Government document, detailing key dates for the ongoing phase three of lockdown easing, indoor gyms and swimming pools may be able to open by mid-September.
The indicative date given for each is Monday, September 14 and the document states: “Will keep under review to consider whether an earlier reopening date is feasible.”
Reviews of individual lockdown measures are set for August 20 and September 10 - so we know by the second of those dates (if not before then) when gyms can open their doors again.
The same document also including indoor sports courts under the same date, as well as soft play for children.
