When frontline heroes can pick up 'Scotland's best curry' for free at The Radhuni in Loanhead

Frontline heroes are able to pick up "Scotland's best curry" for free from The Radhuni in Loanhead this week.

Those at the hugely-popular Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant say they want to "recognise the enormous efforts of our pandemic frontline heroes" and provide them with "more nourishment to help keep up their energy and strength".

Teachers, postmen and women, delivery drivers, supermarket staff, police, fire brigade, ambulance workers, NHS staff and care workers are able to get their hands on a curry and rice dish, and a soft-drink from the restaurant on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 12pm and 2pm, and 4.30pm and 9.30pm.

The offer is also being run by The Radhuni's sister restaurant, Itihaas in Dalkeith. All staff need to do for their free meal is show some valid ID.

In addition, food will be provided to those working in the hospitality industry, which has been particularly badly hit during the pandemic.

The restaurants are using a new Government grant to fund the distribution, and managing partner Habibur Khan said: "The past nine months have been tough going for restaurants throughout the UK.

"Radhuni and Itihaas have already recognised the enormous efforts of our pandemic frontline heroes and heroines in practical ways, but felt we needed to go even further by giving them more nourishment to help keep up their energy and strength."

Aged just 24, Habibur became the youngest person to take home a major British Curry Awards last year when the Radhuni was named Scotland's best curry restaurant. They were also given the Scottish Award for Most Outstanding Service during the Pandemic, last month.

In 2020 the two Indian-Bangladeshi restaurants donated 10,000 worth of free meals to NHS and emergency workers, and care home staff.
