When forecasters say the rain will stop this Bank Holiday Monday

Forecasters at the Met Office are predicting a wet bank holiday on Merseyside - but the weather could improve this evening.

Anyone with plans to eat and drink outside may want to take a coat and aim for covered seating areas with rain anticipated for much of the day, starting between 9am and 10am.

There is hope for some sunshine later, however, with the forecast looking brighter - and drier - from 6pm.

The Met Office is reporting the likelihood of rain hitting Liverpool to be 90% or higher between 9am and 6pm.

Temperatures are expected to hover between 7C and 10C.

The chances of rain in Liverpool drop to 40% from 6pm, and 10% from 7pm, with the potential for some sunshine this evening.

The rest of Merseyside has a similar forecast.

BBC forecasters present a similar picture for today, with "gusty winds" set to accompany the rain according to their analysis.

Tuesday is expected to be overcast with light showers throughout the day.

Temperatures may reach the mid-teens at the weekend but, until then, it is expected to remain cool across the region with the mercury barely reaching double figures.

The predictions follow a sunny weekend in which the region hosted a number of pilot events for the release of further lockdown restrictions.

Events included Indie pop band Blossoms playing to 5,000 people in Sefton Park.
