When Fabio Vieira could make his Arsenal debut as Edu seals £34m summer transfer

The Gunners have confirmed the signing of Fabio Vieira from Porto as the midfielder becomes the club's second arrival of the summer transfer window after signing Marquinhos from Sau Paulo.

As revealed by football.london, Arsenal had been tracking the Portugal under-21 international for some time and have moved to conclude a deal just days after signing Marquinhos for a fee believed to be around £3.5m

Fans had been anticipating the announcement of the Portuguese international after Porto confirmed the deal before Arsenal on Friday morning, with the Portuguese club confirming an agreement for the transfer of Vieira on a permanent transfer had been reached. With the transfer now confirmed by the north London side, the supporters will be eager to see Vieira wear the colours of red and white for the first time.

With no international commitments over the summer for Vieira, it means that the Portugal midfielder could be available for selection in Arsenal’s first pre-season game of the season. The Gunners are set to play against German side FC Nurnberg at the Max-Morlock-Stadion on Friday, July 8 with kick-off being at 16:30 BST. He is then likely to travel with the squad on the pre-season tour to the United States where Arsenal will start the process against Everton on Saturday, July 16.

Vieira becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the season with Porto revealing the overall package of the deal is up to £34m which includes a potential of £5m in bonuses. Despite the hefty fee, Arteta’s summer business does not end there.

football.london understands that Gabriel Jesus remains a priority signing with Mikel Arteta still hopeful of bolstering his options in attack and in central midfield. United States goalkeeper Matt Turner is also set to be announced as the third Arsenal summer signing at the end of the month.
