Everton are running out of time to bolster their first-team squad ahead of their Premier League opener against Chelsea at Goodison Park this Saturday.
One name who has been mentioned as a possible incoming is Idrissa Gueye. The ECHO understands that Frank Lampard sees strengthening midfield as a priority and interest in the Paris Saint-Germain star is genuine.
Gueye made 108 appearances for the Blues over the course of his three-year stint on Merseyside, before joining the Le Parc des Princes club for a fee in the region of £30million in 2019. He fulfilled his dream to play in the Champions League, and was a mainstay in the PSG side during his first two seasons at the club.

But as per the Premier League regulations, the Blues would have to register the Senegal international, or any new signings, by 12 noon on Friday, August 5 for him to be available for selection against Thomas Tuchel’s side.
A statement reads: “Subject to the provisions of Rule V.1, the deadline for receipt by the Board of all duly completed documents required by these Rules to effect the registration of a Player shall be 12 noon on the last Working Day before the date of the first League Match in which the Club making the application intends him to play, save that the international transfer certificate and evidence of eligibility to take up employment in the United Kingdom (in both cases if applicable) may be provided thereafter (but must be provided before the Player is eligible to play for a Club in a League Match).”
