When entire county of Nottinghamshire hit coronavirus peak revealed

New statistics have revealed just when Nottinghamshire hit its Covid-19 peak.

Both Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council have started releasing weekly virus surveillance reports, which include comprehensive data sets from Public Health England.

They show how many positive cases have been confirmed in different communities across the county since the start of the pandemic as well as showing patterns in the numbers of cases week by week.

The data shows Nottinghamshire hit its peak in the week commencing April 20 - the same week as the city - when there were a total of 335 confirmed cases.

This data includes both pillar one and pillar two data.

Pillar one relates to swab testing in PHE labs and NHS hospitals for those with a clinical need as well as health and care workers.

Pillar two covers testing for the wider population.

A graph from Nottinghamshire County Council shows in the week commencing April 20, there was 202 confirmed pillar one cases, as well as 133 pillar two cases.

The following week, commencing April 27, cases dropped to 305 - with 181 pillar two cases and 124 pillar one cases.

This increased again to just below the previous peak in the week commencing May 4, when there were 332 cases (189 pillar two and 143 pillar one).

However, cases have drastically and consistently dropped in the subsequent weeks.

For example, the week commencing May 11 there were just 186 confirmed cases.

Public health bosses and others have long campaigned for this data to become available, so local outbreaks can be better managed.

It has only recently started to happen.

There have now been 3,028 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Nottinghamshire, with a further 1,200 in Nottingham, according to the latest data from the Government.

In regards to the managing of local outbreaks, the most recent report says: "There are many factors that can contribute to the number of cases in an area.

"As part of local outbreak control arrangements, a team meets daily to review information about new cases to identify where further investigation or action is required."
