When each supermarket reduces its food prices including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's

Everybody loves a bargain or a big sale.

And food is no different with most keeping an eye out for their local supermarket reducing the price of their stock to clear the shelves.

But there often better times to go than others, with many of the big stores including Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's having set times when staff go around knocking prices down.

And if you're lucky you can make a killing and slash your shopping bill.

Money guru Martin Lewis  told the Mirror  exactly when savvy shoppers should look out for the best bargains.

Items are usually reduced because they are about to go out of date, the goods are damaged or no longer being sold.

The list, which includes Asda , Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and M&S, is only a rough guide which will vary between supermarkets and between stores - especially depending upon opening times.

I always go with my eyes peeled for yellow stickers, in the hopes that rogue items can be found away from the usual reduced item shelves.

Asda

Final reductions often start around 7pm – and most bargains have been snapped up by 9pm.

Tesco

(PA)

Tesco insists there's no hard and fast rule on discounts, according to Moneysavingexpert.

Previous reports from shop-floor staff suggest reductions start as early as 8am and big discounts materialise early evening – but much will depend on individual stores' opening times.

Sainsbury's

The official line from Sainsbury's is also that the timing of yellow-sticker discounts is "completely store dependent". It's worth starting scanning for yellow stickers around lunchtime.

M&S

M&S shoppers have revealed how they've seen final reductions at 6.30pm in stores which close at 7pm, and at 8pm in stores closing at 9pm.

One person revealed that M&S often marks down items reaching their sell-by date "just after lunch".

Morrisons

Shoppers said reductions tend to start late morning or lunchtime. Morrisons told Moneysavingexpert there's no set policy though and it's up to individual store managers to decide when and how to reduce items.

Aldi & Lidl

There isn't a sure time when items start to be reduced, but the orange stickers are a great way of scanning through to the aisles of produce.

These stores also have a Buy It While You Can aisle, giving offers on more than just fresh produce. I find the best time to find these is later on an evening.

The best time for bargains at the Willerby store is definitely on a Wednesday night after about 7.30pm - regardless of what anyone tells you.

The reduced shelf can be found tucked down the pizza and pasta aisle, with some massive bargains to be had, including from the Heston Blumenthal range.
